Remedies For Tinnitus

Tinnitus overview

Tinnitus, commonly known as "ringing in the ears", effect millions of people daily. While some complain of a high pitched squeal, others hear a buzzing , clicking or humming noise. Whichever sound you hear, Tinnitus can be a very annoying, even debilitating problem. Imagine trying to carry on a conversation with constant background noise, that only you can hear. While there are several treatments for Tinnitus, it is important to understand which type you have so you can find appropriate treatment.
There are two types of Tinnutus:
tinnitus pain treatment
– Objective/Pulsatile Tinnitus, where the noise can actually be heard by a doctor or other people
– Subjective/non-pulsatile Tinnitus, which can only be heard by the sufferer.

Though not considered an actual type of Tinnitus, Presbycusis, the loss of hearing due to age, is the main reason for ringing in the ears for people over 40.
Although there are no definite Tinnitus cures available, there are several things that you can try that may lessen the symptoms.
Playing "white noise" has proven helpful for many people. Listening to a radio, Walkman or i-pod will mask the irritating noise with a more pleasant sound. Playing soft music in the room also helps at home or at work, so that you aren’t as focused on the ringing in your ears. Avoid loud noises, as they can make the ringing worse, not better.
Occasionally Tinnitus can be caused my a certain medication. Aspirin for instance, can cause a ringing in the ears at higher doses. By identifying and eliminating, if possible, the medication responsible for the symptoms, you may stop the ringing for good. Always check with your doctor before changing or eliminating any prescribed medication.
There are also prescription medications for tinnitus. Lidocaine, Xanax, and certain anticonvulsants have all been used to treat Tinnitus with varying degrees of success. Unfortunately the relief has mostly been short lived. Hopefully in the future medical advances will find a drug that will be useful for Tinnitus control.
Homeopathic remedies have gained popularity in recent years for treating the Tinnitus symptoms. Calcarea carbonica, not only helps with the ringing, but also with the vertigo sometimes experienced with Tinnitus. Kali carbonicum is useful if you experience roaring, itching or a cracking sound instead of the usual ringing. There are many other Tinnitus products on the market today, each with its own unique uses. You may have to try several before you find the one that works for you .
Many Tinnitus sufferers find relief in relaxation techniques like hypnosis, Yoga and Biofeedback. Hypnosis hopes to convince the body that the symptoms are gone, thereby eliminating them and essentially "curing" the Tinnitus. Yoga and biofeedback work by relaxing the body and spirit. A more relaxed outlook hopefully will lessen the symptoms, or at least make a person better able to deal with the constant noise.
